Decoding Trade in 2023: Revealing Trends in Chile

For Softpower Connections, 2023 was filled with valuable discoveries to guide our work in promoting international trade, connecting suppliers and buyers with the latest market trends. Our activities allowed us to identify fascinating patterns shaping import preferences in the region. Below, we share some of the most noteworthy lessons.

Chocolate and Coffee:

Chile is the Latin American leader in per capita chocolate consumption, with an increase of almost 13% between 2019 and 2022, according to the Euromonitor study from July of this year.

This was reflected in the activities carried out by Softpower Connections, where we observed that Chilean companies showed a greater interest in importing products related to this category. This includes conventional, organic, bar or chip chocolates, to Nibs, cocoa mass and liquor, as well as others considered gourmet, which come with chocolate coating, such as nuts, cocoa beans, and coffee beans.

Coffee also ranks among the most sought-after foods. The main categories include premium arabica coffee, decaffeinated, 100% arabica gourmet, roasted whole beans, roasted and ground, soluble, with private labels, or white labels, among others.

Frozen Foods:

Frozen foods are another highly demanded category by Chilean importers. In addition to the most consumed fruits and vegetables such as apricots, peaches, apples, oranges, bell peppers, and tomatoes, less common names also appear, such as black and yellow figs, pomegranates, quinces, grapefruits, tangerines, grapes, cherries, cauliflower, broccoli, and leeks, among others. Frozen rustic-cut potatoes with skin, straight cut, wavy cut, native potatoes also appear on the list.

Textiles:

In another area, textiles such as towels, bathrobes, tablecloths, bedspreads, sheets, carpets, chair and sofa covers also top the list of the most requested products by importers. They emphasize that premium quality and price are the key attributes. This trend is also reflected in e-commerce. For example, in Decohogar, textile products are among the top 10 best sellers.
