Female leadership in clean technologies: our CEO joins Fueling the Change

In a global context where the energy transition and circular economy are consolidating as pillars of the future, female leadership in these industries is still far from the norm. That is why we celebrate that our founder has been selected among 29 women entrepreneurs to participate in Fueling the Change, a Chilean program that accelerates projects led by women in the clean technologies and circular economy sectors.

The CEO of SoftPower was selected with Envirobiotics, her personal venture (independent of SoftPower), which develops the first organic disinfectant without chemicals on the market. This solution, awarded in 2022 in the United States as the best children’s immunizer, represents a paradigm shift in air purification: instead of eliminating all microorganisms with harsh chemicals, it restores natural biological balance using beneficial microorganisms.

Women’s participation in the clean tech industry: a visible gap

According to the report “Renewable Energy: A Gender Perspective” by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA, 2023), women make up only 32% of the workforce in renewable energy. In emerging sectors such as green hydrogen, female participation drops to just 14%.

The gap widens in the entrepreneurial ecosystem: according to Cleantech Group (2022), only 11% of clean tech startups have at least one female founder. In contrast, countries like Canada report 28.6% female employment in the clean tech sector (Natural Resources Canada).

Chile: progress and challenges

In Chile, according to data from the Ministry of Energy (2018), women held only 23% of jobs in the energy sector. However, initiatives have been implemented to reverse this situation, such as the Energía + Mujer program and Start-Up Chile’s calls, which require 50% female participation in their pre-acceleration phase.

The selection of 29 women in Fueling the Change not only brings visibility but also shows that there is a critical mass of innovative women ready to lead solutions for the planet from Latin America.

“Being part of this program is not just recognition. It is an opportunity to learn, connect, and accelerate from the Global South a new way of doing business: more conscious, cleaner, more balanced. And with more women at the table.”
